The Nile was the main transport route in ancient Egypt, sailing
down the Nile was much easier than a journey up the Nile because: anyone
sailing down the Nile was moving in the direction of the current whereas
sailing up the Nile made the boats depend on the wind. More than 90 per cent of
Egypt’s people lived almost within sight of the Nile, which is the longest
river in world that stretches for more than 6,500km from East Africa to the
Mediterranean.
